Mark Gwynne Jones and the Psychicbread offer a fresh and original show that inspires and entertains. Here is an intertwining of voice, rhythm, rootsmusic and vivid poetry. A powerful act capable of transforming the mundane into magical landscapes and leading an audience through bewildered innocence to laughter and dance.
Mixing contemporary narratives with ethnic percussion, piano, kora and flute, the Psychicbread underscore and empower the spoken word. The sound is fresh yet the form is an old one. It is that of the Griot or bard. For this show draws on an ancient tradition yet tackles the complexities of our changing world with a beautiful and savage humour.
Mark Gwynne Jones and the Psychicbread are:
M G Jones on words, flute, harmonica and wind pipe
Deb Rose on vocals, piano, synth-bass, vibes, marimba, darabouka, groove box and gong
John Thorne on vocals, djun djun, djembe, udu, drum kit and all that can be struck
Nick L Pearson on vocals, kora, sitar, guitar, spring drum and kalimba
Psychicbread Film is a collaboration between Mark Gwynne Jones, Andy Lawrence and John Stephen to bring together poetry, film and music in a cinematic web experience. The films we have shown you are sketches; experiments and ideas we are seeking to develop. Our aim is to be accessible and engaging without shying from the difficult questions or uncomfortable realities of life in the 21st century.
Workshops Individually and collectively we provide a variety of workshops. From performance poetry and creative writing to digital film-making, broadcast, photography, music and art.
